Do Teachers dream of cosmic sleep?
I certainly do.
Dreams. What are they all about? Are they real, lucid or fantastical, mind meanderings which we tuck furtively away into those nether regions of our sub-consciousness?
For me, very occasionally, art gives hope, a type of wish-fulfillment that the world could be a different place. Things like the simple yet blindingly poignant death speech of Roy Batty, who, in a few words, reveals his understanding of the world and empathy for man through the ages. At that moment, he is indeed more human than human.
If only human empathy were that simple.
All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.
Time to die.
I hope you come to love Blade Runner as much as I do. :-) Tell me what you really think of it.

I've got to admit, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Poor, poor acting, storyline that doesn't add up (if there were six replicants that escaped from Off-World, one dying pre-story and four killed by Deckard [Pris, Zhora, Roy and Leon], what happened to the sixth?), and overall just bad acting.

Well, apparently there was a fifth replicant (Mary) and an actor all ready to play the role, but it was cut before filming. And what was I thinking? That I'd intrigue you with one of the most enigmatic movies ever made! ;-)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think Blade Runner is fantastic. Sure, the acting is a little cheesy, but it's an 80's movie. Everything about the 80's was cheesy, and that's what made it great.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so maybe I'm a sucker for science fiction, especially those from that particular decade, but I absolutely loved this movie. Loved, loved, loved it. Great plot, complex characters, lack of a "happy ending" (YES!) and the wonderful J.F. Sebastian. God, I love him.
